Catching Up on Correspondence

InCoWriMo 2021, International Correspondence Writing Month, has gone by in a flash. It’s February every year, and you’re supposed to write a letter each day, or if not a letter, maybe a greeting card or a postcard. In years past, we did a little more celebrating, maybe ran a pen pal match up if I recall correctly, but this year, things have just swept along and here I am in March.

Snail Mail

I’ve been spending a bit of time catching up on snail mail these days. It’s been a relief and a pause, digging about in my stationery stash, affixing stamps. I mostly do it during homeschooling time. Much of Caleb’s homeschooling time I am doing the blog or on my screen in some way, and it’s nice to also do some analogue things while he is scratching away on paper and pencil. His mama in fact is not bionic.

For the last couple of years, we’ve had Wonder Pens postcards with various pictures on them. Sometimes we print out ones for special events or occasions, but mostly they are scenes from our shop and our favourite stationery supplies.

We have a Lettermail shipping option, which is for lightweight, flat things which can ship in a cardboard mailer (notebooks, converters). Although it doesn’t come with tracking or insurance, and can sometimes take a while, it’s a pretty popular option because it’s cheaper, especially if you only need a few packs of cartridges or some stickers.

Letter Writing These Days

No better time, both because this is an excellent way to spend an afternoon or evening, if you’re spending lots of time at home, and also because this is a truly excellent way to stay in touch. It’s always been a great way to stay in touch, but now, with so many other ways of staying connected removed from us—meeting up in person, bumping into someone on the street, coffee dates, seeing people at work or at school—it’s even better.

We’re doing it again! We’ve done a few pen pal match ups in the past which have always been exhilarating, consuming, exciting and a lot of fun. Lately, with so many of you in unusual circumstances, some of you with more time on your hands than you’ve usually had, we’ve been receiving more requests to run our pen pal match again, and so here we are. We are nothing if not here to meet your stationery needs, which occasionally may involve finding you someone to write to.
