Pens and Things

When I was a teacher, I specifically applied to schools within walking distance of where I lived because I thought it would be great and important and easier to live in the community in which I taught, which was definitely true, but nothing compares to living upstairs from your shop - especially in the winter.

Happy new year! And what better way to start off a new year than with a fresh box of pencils.

Blackwing released their latest seasonal edition, Volume 4, just before the Christmas break, and I think it's one of my favourite of their special editions. With four editions a year, I'm always excited for what's going to come out, and I usually keep a box, sharing a pencil or two with Caleb, and this year I'm debating whether or not I need a spare.*

Just in time for Christmas, two new special edition inks from Kyo No Oto - also, coincidentally, these are beautiful, subtle colours that are perfect for the season as well - Christmas, winter, something a little frosty and soft. Urahairo is a pale, mossy green and Keshimurasaki is a muted purplish grey. 

We've long heard about Taroko notebooks, made with fountain pen friendly Tomoe River paper, and this past summer we finally brought them in. We just got another shipment of them in this week, so I thought now was as good a time as any to share a few more details about the line.
