After a thunderstorm, still drizzling, we walked past this snail and let me tell you it freaked me out. Upon closer inspection, there were lots of them.

The snails here are huge! Apparently they are Giant African land snails. They are giant. They move very slowly, as snails will. Their antennae are also very active, going (very slowly) haywire in all directions. We watched a snail demolish a leaf, very slowly. I’m not really a bug person, but good thing these were large enough to be a small reptile. (I’m not really a reptile person, either.)

We spent fifteen minutes watching these gloopy friends. The lesson in all this is that you can find free travel activities if you look hard enough. I also got a mosquito bite while taking these photos, so I guess it wasn’t really free (another life lesson).

In any case, we made it home after the thunderstorm. Truly an island nation.
