  1. Octopus Inks Green Crane
  2. Lamy Dark Lilac
  3. Diamine Inkvent Elf
  4. Octopus Inks Grey Fox
  5. Rohrer and Klingner Scabiosa

Actually, I had these inked up and photos in the queue and had hoped to put this post out before we left for Taiwan, but alas I could not make it. However, these inks are still lovely and an interesting mix for me to consider on this sultry, humid island, and I hope you’ll enjoy these photos and writing samples, and maybe in your own pens as well. Please let me know if you’ve tried any of these inks!

Octopus Inks Green Crane, with so much subtlety and shading.

Diamine Inkvent Elf. A very solid Christmas green, but also a lush island green as well.

What a sheen! Lamy Dark Lilac. This ink appears to be green because its sheen is so strong in the swab, but it is in fact a beautiful dark purple ink. It’s the re-released Dark Lilac from the previous and very popular special edition several years ago, and I believe the sheen is even stronger on this one.

Octopus Inks Grey Fox. No matter how many I try and how many I have, I love a good blue black ink—in a fountain pen, I love the idea that your ink has some more depth to it than a ball point or a gel pen, and a good blue black ink has some subtle shading on it for those with a good eye.

Rohrer and Klingner Scabiosa, a modern iron gall ink. I’m not a super purple person, but this is one of my favourite inks because it changes colour a bit, darkens as it oxidizes, and I love an ink that has some mystery to it.

In any case, these are some new inks for July, and what fun to have some micro adventures for our pens to go on. Sometimes the fun of a sample pack is that you know it’s just for fun—you’re not committing to a full bottle, but just having the question of decision making gone, and enjoying some new inks to test out.
