The In-Between Week

It’s the week between Christmas and New Year’s, which is one of my favourite weeks of the year. After the final sprint of the holidays, working right up until Christmas Eve, and all of the hot and heady and festive and bright and exhausting gatherings are over, it’s just the quiet lull of recovery and reading and soaking up all of our new presents and the cats.
Alas, we are not having any Boxing Day sales or excitement. The shop re-opened December 27th, but after all of the hustle and muscle to get us to Christmas, as always, we’re just going to take our time with these final days of 2024. The clock is whirling past us fast enough without our rushing it.
We’ve been in and out of the shop, mopping up, price-tagging, tidying, earning our ramen. We shovelled back several armloads of overdue library books and left again equally laden, eating popcorn and all the Christmas chocolate, watching Chinese soap operas and Charlie Brown falling in love. I occasionally make some paltry progress on the piles of laundry, Jon makes better progress on the aftermath of gift exchanges and returns. The humidifier is working full-time again, the jars of lotions and potions dug out of drawers.
Everyone is finding secret reading places, and it is complete bliss.

One of my favourite times of year, too. Everything is so subdued. And my birthday is this week.

As always even though I don’t comment often, I await eagerly for your blog posts and shop updates. They are the highlight of my day.
Wishing you a record breaking 2025 with sales exploding. Wishing you the best a family can have and a never ending supply of books… wait you already enjoy that… okay, how about a never ending supply of your perfect weather?
Love hugs to each of you and special hugs to your incredible hard working staff (you, too! not insinuating you aren’t hard working ;-)
