We recently got a restock of these leather notebook covers from The Superior Labor, as always in limited quantities, based on TSL’s production capacity. They are one of my favourite items by them. I feel like I write or talk or share about them all the time and I love them so much I have one in every size.

The satisfaction of the patina is like none other. It warms so slowly and deeply and thoroughly. It is the sun and my hands and life. What more could you want from your stationery?

Every time I see a brand new natural cover, I’m startled by how pristine and light it starts out. It’s like a completely different item, which it is, in every sense of the word, each one of them accompanying someone on their own unique journeys and adventures, and holding some precious and treasured and silly and terrible stories and thoughts for a short time as well, while they pass through.

I love these timeless pieces, the leather case that can house different pens, or the notebook covers that countless notebooks can slip in and out of over the years. Something that shows patina! That shows love and use and utility and the fact of good things that last.

And also just as a bonus, here is the Lamy 2000 in Pine Green, a rare 2000 special edition. At the time of this photo I was waffling about what to ink it up with, it seemed like such an important decision, so the photos show it unlinked, which is sort of nice because you can just see the ink window. I ended up inking it with Ferris Wheel Press’ Writing Desk, a recently restocked collaboration special edition.

I’m finding I’m inking up and using fewer and fewer pens. Life is busier, but mostly I don’t want to wash so many pens. But this one! The Lamy 2000 is a tried and true, one of my few slip cap pens that also has a gold nib and a great ink capacity, making it terrific for on the go, jotting something down in the few minutes I have in the car at a pick up.
