I think you should do it!

 

I’ve never had a leak.

 

I’m not a scientist, I don’t know how anything works.

 

I think it’s theoretically either totally full or totally empty, since it’s the air that expands and may push ink out. Or maybe it’s nib up, so if the air expands, it’s the air that will get pushed out instead of ink.

 

But I have not followed any rule at all, have flown with half-empty pens facing all directions, and have never had a leak.
