Some pens inked up! One of them is new: the Pilot Prera in yellow was calling out to me, with a new-to-me ink, Octopus Cerberus, a rich and dark blue with some sheen.

And some old favourites, a Pelikan with J. Herbin Café des îles, and Sailor Shikiori Doyou in my Lamy 2000. I have become stodgy and inflexible and boring and yet these trusty tools bring me so much satisfaction and doodling and moments of tiny joy.

I am pleased, if vaguely, with all three pairings. A somber mood, but clear, crispy writing on the page, some character, some depth.

This set of currently inked pens has been inspired by Naomi, of recent book club discussion. Books and pens? Is Naomi our superstar child? Our overachiever? Our family extrovert? She is pretty spectacular. Caleb groans from his comfortable position on the living room sofa, burying himself back under his books, strategizing how to convince his parents to let him try Minecraft programming.

I had let many of my pens lay fallow as we moved into this new house, into the Christmas season, and now trying to survive this pup, but Naomi and her friends at school have been using fountain pens, which is just too much fun to even bear. She has currently has three pens, and is gunning for more, but I think three is more than enough for her to handle. She started out with the Pilot Kakuno months ago, and recently gleaned from my collection a Brass Sport and TWSBI Mini. The other day, she came up to me with all three pens empty! What on earth could she even be writing? I inquire no further, it is simple A Delight to Contemplate.
