Red sheening, beautiful royal blue

Königsblau is a lovely royal blue colour, in line with Waterman Serenity Blue (Florida Blue, renamed), P.W. Akkerman Delftsblauw, J. Herbin Éclat de Saphir, Caran d’Ache Idyllic Blue, Aurora Blue, Lamy Blue, Stipula Deep Blue (Blue della Robbia) and GvFC Royal Blue.

Kaweco Royal Blue, Diamine Sapphire and Montblanc Royal Blue are more purple, and Diamine Royal Blue is more of a mid-blue and lacks the royal red tinge.

Königsblau’s sheen is visible with all nib sizes on different papers without overpowering the writing: there’s just enough to make the ink interesting and well suited for daily writing and copious notes. When I’m not writing with Florida Blue or Delftsblauw, I’m writing with this ink.

It’s flawless in all my pens, and when I ink up my Sailor 1911S 21 kt H-M, which is my driest pen, I ask myself, “why on Earth is pen is my least favourite?”; this ink makes me forget that this pen has such a stingy flow.

Feathering and bleedthrough are non-existent, and faint ghosting is visible on thinner paper with wet pens. I’ve had no skips, hard starts, railroading. There is shading, which is pen and paper dependent. It easily cleans out of converters and I’ve had success using it with the Pelikan Super Pirat ink eradicator; I haven’t tried other brands, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t work.

I love royal blues in general, and even though I have a lot of them already, R&K Königsblau is a nice addition to the bunch.
