I've got some good news and some bad news

The good news: I've solved that leaky problem that was preventing me from turning my Platinum Preppy into an eyedropper. Would you believe it was just a matter of putting more silicone grease on the barrel threads?

The bad news: I did this because I wanted to try out some iron gall inks. I got a sample of this ink because it seemed like the most classic colour, but it doesn't go down even close to being legible. In the barrel of my pen, it looks like brown water. Even on the best paper (Rhodia / Clairfontaine), it's so faint and washed out that you actually have to look for it. Nothing at all like the illustration attached to the blog post about these inks. I've checked and there are no flow issues. The Preppy is a rather wet writer, so it's not as if I'm not laying down ink.

I really wanted to like this more. Maybe I got a bum sample?
