TWSBI Diamond 580 Fountain Pen - Demonstrator

I really loved my TWSBI Eco, so why not get a higher quality 580 and enjoy it even more? Upon receiving this pen it wrote terrible, like it was tearing the paper no matter what I did. I looked online and was re-assured this isn't normal. I reached out to TWSBI North America, listed my issues and what I had tried to fix the pen. They mailed out a new nib for free with no questions asked. I'm glad it wasn't a pricey mistake and the pen writes great now but it did take a long while for the new nib to come in the mail so I couldn't use the brand new pen for almost three weeks.

The new nib writes buttery smooth like my ECO does. It's my second favorite pen now and I use it every day.

For what it's worth, the TWSBI nib sizes are larger than the Lamy's. This TWSBI fine is the same as my Lamy Medium, the 1.1 stub is quite a bit wider than the Lamy 1.1 stub as well.

The pen is fantastic, however, after about a year or so of light use, the nib unit that connects to the body broke (exactly how another reviewer posted the ink started to leak into the nib section). The nib unit separates right below the threads for the cap, so as you write your constantly putting a bending stress on the black ink feed tube leading to failure. a My pen is currently in two pieces. This is defiantly a poor design flaw that could easily be remedied. Apart from that I have it in medium and writes super smooth with fantastic ink flow straight out of the box. Huge ink capacity and all the components are of good quality and are of great finish. I will purchase a new nib unit because I do really enjoy this pen.

Based on a number of good reviews, I finally purcahsed this as my first demonstrator. Personally, I find the pen too large, as it is quite a bit bigger than the average pen. The Med nib I originally got was too big for marking up documents, so I bought a Fine nib, which is much nicer. However, I find the pen unattractive, and have since retired it in favour of smaller and better-looking pens.

The Diamond 580 is the third fountain pen I've used from the Jinhao and the Kwako, but this one takes the cake. First and foremost is the large ink resovior, I can literally write for a couple weeks before needing to refill it. Shorter if I'm writing more. But for daily use in my work it can last a couple weeks. And for refilling, nice and easy with the twist piston. And the Extra Fine nib makes for a beautiful writing experience. A solid performer for the price point.
