Sailor 115th Anniversary Commemorative HIROSHIMA Fountain Pen - Yosegi Zaiku
Introducing the Sailor 115th Anniversary Commemorative HIROSHIMA fountain pen series. The Sailor Pen Company was founded in Hiroshima and has crafted exceptional pens there for over a century. To honor this 115-year legacy, Sailor partnered deeply with regional artisans, municipal partners, and historic workshops across the prefecture to create a masterwork steeped in local culture, sustainable forestry, and generational craftsmanship.
The commemorative pens are turned from locally sourced Hiroshima timbers, bringing regional nature directly into the hand of the writer. Sailor partnered with Higashi-Hiroshima forestry initiatives to utilize harvested and periodically thinned woods, turning sustainable forest management into heirloom-grade art. Each pen body undergoes specialized stabilization and expert oil finishing to protect the organic material, highlighting the natural warmth, tactile depth, and grain of the wood.
The pens are fitted with Sailor’s legendary 21K solid gold nib—specially engraved with a commemorative 115th-anniversary motif and offered exclusively in a Medium Fine (MF) nib grade—and finished with a custom-engraved cap ring marking Sailor's Hiroshima origins.
The Yosegi Zaiku Edition showcases traditional Japanese parquetry, intricately assembling three Hiroshima-grown woods—Momiji (maple), Ichou (ginkgo), and Abemaki (sawtooth oak). Together, these timbers symbolize harmony, longevity, and perseverance. Hand-crafted parquetry unites the contrasting colors and grain textures of all three woods into a striking, contemporary geometric mosaic, pairing age-old joinery with modern design.
Every detail surrounding these 115th Anniversary pens reflects the soul of Hiroshima. Each pen is accompanied by a Yosegi Zaiku wood origami crane decor piece and nestled inside a custom presentation box wrapped in handmade paper crafted from recycled Orizuru—origami peace cranes sent to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The pens also include an exclusive hand-stitched pouch made from authentic Bingo-gasuri, a heritage indigo-dyed cotton fabric produced by only two surviving traditional weaving houses.
Because of the labor-intensive crafting techniques required, production numbers are extraordinarily limited worldwide.
