It’s Tomoe River paper; nuff said!

I don’t use the Midori or Traveler’s notebook system. I bought these refills for the Tomoe River paper inside, and their small footprint on my desk.

I wound up buying the 013 and 005 notebooks. I did find them a bit thick for what I wanted to do with them, so I divided each refill into two notebooks; for the first one, I replaced the staples with stitching since the holes were already there. For the other one, I cut some cardstock and made holes in it by pushing a needle into the pre-existing ones already in the paper; then I stitched it.

I like that they’re blank, but wouldn’t have minded if they came with dot or grid ruling. I printed several guides, which I plasticized, and I can easily use them under the page as 1) well, a guide; and 2) a pencil board.

It is TR paper, so there is some ghosting, but I only use one side of the paper, so this is not an issue for me. Expect a longer drying time, which is not a huge inconvenience since the paper brings out an ink’s characteristics.

I only use one side of the paper, so ghosting is not an issue for me. I use these refills as stand-alone and couldn’t be happier with the quality.

The only refills I want now!

This paper has quickly become my absolute favourite for fountain pens. I’ve seen it listed as Tomoe River elsewhere on the internet, and it definitely has all the traits of showing off ink in a spectacular fashion, and being super lightweight. If you’re an avid journaler, this is the only way to go. I’ve also found it’s really fun with watercolour paints because the water doesn’t bleed through or soak in. If seeing what you’ve written on the reverse of pages is going to bother you, this probably isn’t the paper for you, and it can get smeary with pencils and take a little longer to dry with some inks, like the super thick Noodler’s formulations. But I’ll take that for the trade off in an amazing amount of paper and how gorgeous it is with fountain pens!
