I think that every category of pen (pocket, small, medium size, full size, oversize, extra large, in all the permutations and combinations of nibs, barrel materials, section profiles, section materials, filling systems) has its top five that work for just about every writer who picks one of them up. For me, the Pelikan M200 has always been in the top five in its category (medium size, in-house nib, custom resin section and barrel, piston filler). Just about every M200 ever made is a winner, but the difference with this one is the elegant red marbled resin. It’s a durable, packable, easy to control writer that is perfectly tuned at the factory. It writes perfectly right out of the box. I filled it with Private Reserve Black Cherry ink - an ideal match in terms of colour, flow, spread, and line clarity for all of the writing I normally do, on the variety of papers I use. It works extremely well for me unposted or posted with my average size hands. It’s an ideal size for slotting into journal covers of all kinds (Traveller, Lockby, etc., etc.) and seems to be able to easily tolerate jostling and bouncing around on long walks when stowed in a pen slot in my sling bag. The screw-on cap seals well with a gentle snugging, there are never any hard starts, and true to Pelikan’s high quality form never any leaks either. Very good quality for the money. Highly recommended.
