The beginning of Kaweco goes back to the year 1883. With the Kaweco Ebonit Sport, we take you on a journey through time. Not only is the shape of the popular Sport model inspired by products from over a hundred years ago, but the material used also has a historical origin. In a time when the injection moulding process had not yet been invented, ebonite was often the material of choice for writing instruments. The name ebonite goes back to ebony, which is very similar to hard rubber in colour and hardness. The expressive marbling and the highly polished surface suggest the appearance of valuable exotic wood. The composition of the material with natural rubber and sulphur is totally natural. The combination with gold-plated elements underlines the nostalgic character of the fountain pen and enhances the warm brown grain. A complex burin engraving perfectly complements the history-steeped craftmanship. As standard, the Ebonit fountain pen features a gold-plated stainless steel nib Made in Germany.

As a perfect addition, the limited set includes a nostalgic clip in gold to attach the pen securely to a writing pad. Besides the standard royal blue ink cartridge in the fountain pen, there is also a convenient 10-pack of all Kaweco ink colours for individualising your own writing. Everything together is placed within a packaging, which is inspired by historical cardboard boxes from back then.

Note: Due to the contained sulphur, the pen develops a patina and becomes an unique collector’s item with its own individual colouring over time. The original condition can be restored with a simple polish.

Kaweco EBONIT Sport Fountain Pen Set

This is my first ebonite pen, and I am delighted with it. It's even prettier in person, and the material feels lovely in the hand. I can smell the sulfur, but only when I hold the pen right up to my nose; the smell does not linger on my hands, and I'm not bothered by it. I inked it with Steeped Umber by Ferris Wheel Press and am pleased with the combination. The fine nib on mine is pretty smooth (albeit a bit dry), without any skipping or hard starts, but I still look forward to getting it tuned at some point so I can have it exactly the way I want it. The 10-pack of all Kaweco ink colours is a nice inclusion, but aside from a couple of colours, I probably won't use them. I am using the nostalgic gold clip, though, and now that I've tried it out, I've decided to get clips for the rest of my Kawecos.

I'd also just like to say how much I appreciate the care that Wonder Pens took with packing my order: they siphoned off some of the ink from the FWP Steeped Umber and put it in a separate vial (in case the ink froze and expanded), took the 10-pack of Kaweco inks and the spare ink cartridge from the fountain pen and wrapped them all securely in cellophane. If there had been an inkcident, the rest of my order would've been safe. Thank you!
