YSTUDIO Classic Revolve Fountain Pen - Red

I wasn't sure what to expect from YSTUDIO, but this is a standout pen. The brass metal body puts the Revolve on the heavier side (I use it unposted), but the heft is pleasant and the lacquer is a rich, matte red — a great match for Dominant Industry's Romanian Red ink. Like any brass pen, it can leave a lingering rust scent on your fingers, but for me that's a plus. The hexagon shape means that this pen will also stay where you set it. No rolling away. And the cap action? Incredible. It's so perfectly engineered and satisfying that some reviewers initially suspected it of being magnetic. Which is isn't. It's just *that good*.

The Schmidt nib is buttery smooth, with the medium nib producing a line that's on the narrow side of the medium range. No catch or scratchiness to speak of, so if that's your preference this might not be for you. I suggest looking up reviews of Schmidt nibs if you haven't tried them out before.

Another interesting touch: This kit comes with a bit of sandpaper so you can (optionally) weather your pen to your taste.

Overall, an excellent pen and a refreshing break from the standard brands and forms that are out there.
