Faber-Castell School Fountain Pen - Carbon Black

Im new to the world of fountain pens and ink so I started with this one. Not to expensive and a nutral colour. Its plastic case makes it light and easy to carry around. The grip is comfortable and grippy but not squishy. I do worry some times about the cartridges not being pushed in but thats a me thing. Its easy to clean and so far not clogged with any shimmer inks. It does dry out if left uncapped but a little hot breath and its fine. Can be a little hard to start after cleaning tho. I have 3 pens now and this one is ny favorite

Other than the visual appeal of a 'carbon fiber' patterned body (which is what drew me to this particular model), what you have here is a surprisingly decent quality fountain pen given the price point. I suppose because of the medium nib, it writes a lot smoother than I would have expected it to for the price. Or perhaps that could be attributable to Faber-Castell's acquired expertise having been in the pen-making business for 260 years. What I disliked was how light the pen was. It almost feels as though you're not even holding the pen. Perhaps some people might find that to be a desirable attribute, but not for me. I like a pen that has a bit of substance to it. I'm considering doing a DIY modification and using epoxy and some weighted material in the main body of the pen to add a bit more weight to it, and maybe that'll make it more enjoyable to use. Either me, it wouldn't be a complete loss for $10 bucks. Wish me luck!
