Pilot Prera Fountain Pen - Ivory

Japanese company Pilot's beautiful and brightly coloured Prera's keep to the company's typically clean and classic aesthetic. With these Prera's, Pilot continues their reputation for smooth writing nibs, even with finer sizes. They have a solid and well-made yet lightweight body for extended writing, and special attention has been paid to ensure the nib and feed have consistent flow for smooth, controlled writing.

With a classic look in bold colours, the Prera makes an unusual and surprising gift for the collector, and its ease of use makes it perfect for those just beginning to write with fountain pens.

The Pilot Prera comes with one cartridge, and is also equipped with a converter so you can use it with your favourite bottled ink.

Pilot's Japanese nibs are a finer size than their European companions: consider a medium nib in the Prerar if you typically write with a fine, and the fine nib if you typically write with an extra fine.

Small, but mighty!

TLDR: short body, good weight, smooth writing, vintage aesthetic, finer writing than expected, ink sometimes collects in the cap

I am new to fountain pen writing. As more affordable options tend to be made of lighter material, I usually to lean towards a pen with more length, seeking some counterbalance while writing.

I decided to try the Pilot Prera from reviews citing that while it has a shorter body, writing with the cap on adds some length, the pen itself has good weight, and that Pilot F nibs write more like a European EF.

I was pleased to find this all to be true. The fine nib writes more finely than my Lamy Safari EF, the weight is nice in my hand without being tiring, and the cap on the end of the pen makes it a comfortable length. This pen is compact, without feeling “mini”.

It also writes exceptionally smoothly, never catching on the page or blotching ink, and the satisfying “click” of the cap lets me know my ink won’t dry out.

Even at the end of a cartridge, the ink just gets paler as it runs out, and doesn’t stutter or drag on the page.

My ONLY criticism is that the ink flows so well, it can collect in the cap. So I sometimes get ink on my hand from where the cap has left residue on the body of the pen. I find the other positives outweigh this criticism and the pen still warrants 5/5.

As someone recently involved in the fountain pen community, this is a must have for beginners or anyone who is a fan of a well made, vintage inspired writing tool.

Delightful

A new favourite! I love everything about it: the size, the balance, everything is perfect. The ivory model is the prettiest, in my opinion. I got the medium nib and filled the included converter with Diamine Writer's Blood. This pen wrote incredibly smoothly right off the bat. Great service from Wonder Pens, as usual.

A lovely pen

I just purchased the ivory Pilot Prera from Wonder Pens (thanks, Liz, for the recommendation!) and so far I'm loving it. It writes really smoothly, with no false starts or skips, even if I've left it uncapped for a while. It's a solid, well-made pen with nice details. I got it with a M nib even though I normally use EFs and Fs, as these nibs are narrower than on European pens; I'd say this is almost as thin as my Lamy EFs. I'm a lefty with small handwriting, and this is just about perfect for me. It's a small pen when capped, but a "normal" length when posted: longer than a Kaweco Sport when capped, but less bulky -- comfortable in my hand and a great size for pockets and small purses. And I am loving the ivory colour - a delicious cream, a true ivory that is warmer than a stark white but more interesting than beige. I think it has a vintage look to it. It's definitely the most feminine-looking pen in my collection, and that's refreshing.
