Kaweco Special AL fountain pen

I really, really wanted to like this pen. It has a nice heft to it, the nib is good (and could handle all sorts of inks, not like some of my more finicky pens). The quality of materials was fantastic. Some pet peeves were that if you tightened the cap, the flat sides wouldn't line up. Also, when capped (i.e., the cap is covering the nib), the cap and body were crooked relative to each other. Thus, if put on a flat surface, there were certain flats that only the body would be on the surface, and the cap would angle up like a ramp - something that should have been better, considering the price point. Ultimately I ended up selling it, due to the annoyances and being unable to write comfortably with it. The grip section is tiny, so if you even have medium size hands you will spend a lot of time riding the threads. Either the grip section should be enlarged, or shrunk like Faber Castell's Ambition, to make writing with it over longish periods tolerable. It's really too bad, as I'd buy one again if I could comfortably write with it, as the design is really special.

Kaweco Special AL fountain pen

This long, black, pencil-like Kaweco fountain pen, with a short (o-ring sealed) cap reminds one of the safety pens that were popular during the first quarter of the 20th Century. A small diameter, well shaped grip/section with a non slip matt finish is very comfortable to hold for long writing sessions. This Kaweco fountain pen is very versatile, as it can store two international short carts, back-to-back & also can fit an international converter (supplied) or an international long cartridge (available from Waterman or Pelikan). My Dia2's little spring also fits into the rear of the pen's barrel to keep things tight & steady. I only wish that this fine writing tool could be available in a few other anodized colours. For me, the Kaweco Special AL fp is one of the best pens they manufacture. Highly recommended!
Oh yes,... you can get a handy chromed slip-on clip that fits this pens cap perfectly.
