Designed in Germany, Leuchtturm1917 notebooks are a classic, black notebook, with the fine details that set it above other notebooks. It is one of the only brands that feature numbered pages and a table of contents, and also comes with stickers for labeling and archiving your notebooks when you're done. Notebooks are thread-bound, meaning they will lie open flat, and have eight perforated, detachable sheets at the back. Ivory, acid-free, ink-proof, 80gsm paper that is perfect for fountain pens or anything else.

Good, not great

I'm torn.

Pros:
- the paper hits the sweet spot (for me, at least) between the almost non-Newtonian slickness of Apica CD Premiums/Clairefontaine/Rhodia and the medium textured feel of Midori's Cotton.

- (again, for me, at least) the paper really makes inks look good

- love the archiving accessories, which was my main reason for buying this.

Cons:
- it's surprisingly susceptible to bleedthrough, even with an eastern fine, although I could just be picky about a tiny spot here and there

- slow-drying inks (like X-Feather) take a painfully long time to fully dry - smearing 15-20 minutes after in some cases, which is longer than a Rhodia webbie.

- the signatures are thick, which means it doesn't properly lay flat, and my top binding thread is missing, which I am seriously hoping is just a defect with my particular notebook.

Still beats a Moleskine... but I think I'll be paying the extra for the webbie when I need my next hardcover black notebook.
