A Hefty Paper with Some Issues

This is one of three papers I've tried from G. Lalo (Velin du France not tested). Of the three, this one is my least favourite. When you glide over the surface, it feels the smoothest of the three, but when you write with a flex or fine nib, it actually is the roughest. I think that because of its thickness compared to the others, there is a certain amount of give when the nib presses down. This causes the nib to dig in a bit and add friction. When using a stub nib, you'll get a much smoother experience.

The paper, as mentioned, is the thickest and most substantial of those I've tried. When you ruffle it, you can hear this in the crinkling. When held up to the light, there is no watermark, but you can see a texture which almost resembles animal vellum.

The is definitely some feathering when using a flex nib, but not so much with a fine or stub nib. It has hardly any sheen when using an ink that normally has some.

Other than the heft, there is nothing to really make someone think this is a "special" paper. And, you are paying a premium price for the extra cotton (over 65 cents a sheet). If you need this for a special purpose, I would buy it. It's not a bad paper. It just isn't as good or feel as special as Verge de France or Toile Imperiale.
