Sailor 1911 Realo Fountain Pen - Smoke Black GT

The all-new Sailor 1911 REALO 18k Fountain Pen GT is finally here! In stock and ready to ship to your shelves immediately, this new Sailor release brings a high-capacity piston filling mechanism to the iconic 1911 silhouette, turning the simple act of filling a pen into a moment of pure, uninterrupted leisure.

Crafted in a uniquely cool smoke black transparent finish, the Sailor 1911 REALO’S body strikes the perfect balance between classic sophistication and practical design. The transparent black resin allows writers to keep an eye on their remaining ink levels at a glance without having to look inside at a converter or cartridge. Inside, the built-in piston mechanism holds an impressive 1.5ml of ink — no more running out of ink mid-sentence!

At the heart of this new pen is Sailor’s legendary 18K solid gold large nib.

The Best Realo Yet

This 2026 release of the Realo GT is a breath of fresh air for the 1911L (large size) Sailor line that, IMO, had gotten somewhat repetitive because of the company's relentless re-use of the platform for a seemingly endless number of colours, resins, patterns, and so on. The change in the barrel shape and length - particularly the high waist in the main barrel and small step in the piston knob combined with a new translucent resin - and the beefier piston filling mechanism, the longer main barrel (compared to the standard Realo), and the better balance (the center of balance has moved a bit toward the nib (compared to the standard Realo), make this Realo GT into a very serious fountain pen. The standard Realo is terrific too - I own one, and really like it - but the Realo GT is just a slightly better fit for my hand, and offers better balance for my writing. Personal choice based on personal preferences, no doubt, but I am a genuine fan of the new Realo GT. It has an 18K nib; the standard Realo had a 21K nib. I purchased the nib, and it writes only slightly narrower than a European . While the standard Realo has the graceful, classic appearance of the 1911L, the Realo GT looks more technical with its pinch-waist, 1 mm step near the piston knob, and translucent resin. Mine has been inked for two months (refilled twice - which means it has gotten a lot of use amongst the dozen or so pens inked on my desk right now), and it will stay that way. A very good writer. No hard starts, excellent cap seal, nib perfectly tuned out of the box, classic Sailor nib feedback that is especially well-managed because the Realo GT at 27 grams is 7 grams heavier than the standard Realo. Worth it, IMO.
