Kaweco Ink Cartridges - Royal Blue

I bought these cartridges to send out as samples or for swapping inks with friends; it’s a lot easier to send these in the mail and avoid ink spillage.

The ink is a very lovely hue of Royal Blue, similar to Diamine Sapphire Blue and J. Herbin Éclat de Saphir; it definitely leans red compared to GvFC Royal Blue and CdA Idyllic Blue. S.T.Dupont Royal Blue, Waterman Florida/Serenity and Röhrer & Klingner Königsblau are bluer while Montblanc Royal Blue is redder.

The ink has average flow, offers some shading and dries quickly. I’ve observed red sheen in wet pens, regardless of the nib width or grind, which becomes very evident in large saturated areas where the ink pools in heavy application.

My dry Sailor 1911S 21 kt H-M and this ink don’t play very well though; it feels a bit thin under the nib and dries a bit pale, but still readable. It does better in wetter pens, where I can achieve a nicely saturated dark line with a 21 kt H-MF nib. No matter which nib I use, I obtain crisp and contained lines. I’ve not seen it feather or bleed on any of my Japanese papers, Rhodia DotPad or Clairefontaine Triomphe; I like the colour best on white paper. YMMV, as these observations are based on pen and paper combos.
