We went to the Osaka Aquarium, and it was very good. I love the aquarium! I love visiting aquariums whenever we travel, it’s a very surreal and murky and peaceful and beautiful experience, especially when they play meditation music throughout.

And anecdotally, I find the ones from seaside cities very good compared with landlocked ones. Is this actually true? A coincidence? My imagination? Do these seaside towns literally fish the octopus out of the ocean and put them right into their tanks? Captain Ahab goes out into the pacific and returns with a whale?

As an added benefit, they’re air-conditioned.

We are enjoying our time in Japan so far. A big culture shift, of course, and each city we go to has its own atmosphere and energy, which has been fun and interesting to discover. We’re going to end with a week in Tokyo, the big one, and I’m looking forward to revisiting some places we went to last time. While in Japan, our days are packed and I’m slowly being subsumed by all the photos I’m taking and things I want to write about.

We’ve been heaving our luggage of books around, occasionally digging around in there for more treasures, adding to it, and trusting the bulges will hold as we make it to the next city and hotel. We are enjoying the stationery and the good food, the bustling markets and fast trains, and can’t wait to share more.
